Supplements for Gym-Goers
A practical, evidence-based look at what supports strength, training energy and recovery in the gym.
Whether you train for strength, size or general fitness, consistency and nutrition do most of the work. A few well-researched supplements can help you get a little more from each session β here’s how they fit.
Creatine for strength
The most studied gym supplement β supports strength and power output across training blocks (Kreider et al., 2017).
Ashwagandha for recovery
An adaptogen researched for helping the body handle training stress and support recovery (Kaul et al., 2016).
Maca for energy
A traditional Peruvian root used to support everyday energy and vitality through tough programs.
Lion’s Mane for focus
Helps you stay present and dialled-in through technical lifts and long sessions.
How they fit a training week
Creatine daily for strength and power, ashwagandha in heavy blocks for recovery, maca for steady energy, and lion’s mane for focus on training days. Start with creatine β it has the deepest evidence base β then add what fits your goals.
Do I need to load creatine?
Loading (higher doses for a week) fills stores faster, but taking 3β5 g daily works too β just takes a little longer to saturate.
Can I stack all four?
Yes, they work through different mechanisms. Start one at a time so you know how each affects you.
Is this safe for beginners?
For healthy adults, yes. If you’re under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication, speak to a healthcare professional first.
